Getting started
Create your captain, commission a vessel, choose a home port, take the helm, and use the first-voyage briefing inside the game. Sailigate runs in real time, so a short route can take real time to complete.
This is the compact captain's guide for the public beta. Start with the in-game briefing, then use these sections whenever you want the deeper explanation.
You do not need to understand every instrument before leaving port. The in-game HELP / LEARN control can restart the first-voyage briefing at any time.

Heading is where the bow points. Course Over Ground (COG) is where the boat actually travels over Earth. Wind and leeway can push COG away from heading. Avoid the red no-go sector and use reaching angles for better sailing speed.
The engine is useful for docking, light winds and schedule pressure. Throttle raises propulsion and fuel burn. Motorsailing combines engine propulsion with useful sail power but remains limited by vessel performance.
Ports are career hubs. Enter a port to take cargo or charter work, buy fuel and supplies, repair or clean the vessel, hire crew, and purchase additional boats. Job objectives and deadlines are shown in the Jobs panel.
More crew can improve sailing, turning and maintenance work, but every person consumes water and supplies. Crew morale and condition matter on long passages. The captain never dies, but neglected crew can be lost.
Owned vessels keep their own position, condition, supplies, passage history and heading. Use Fleet to take the helm of another vessel. Background vessels remain part of the persistent account world.
Sailigate uses processed ECMWF forecast fields for wind and sea state. The game interpolates conditions around each vessel. Forecast data is simulation input, not navigational guidance for real-world boating.
Your account state is stored server-side. Underway vessels can advance between sessions using the protected persistence system. Refreshing, signing out, or restarting the server should not reset a healthy account save.
Build 9.20.4
Systems, balance and presentation are still evolving. Progress is intended to persist, but beta fixes may occasionally require data repair.
Real time means real time.
There is no time acceleration. Long crossings take real hours or days and are designed around persistent/offline progression.
Report confusing UI too.
Use REPORT ISSUE for bugs, unclear controls, gameplay friction or suggestions. Those reports are more useful than guessing what new players need.
Not a navigation product.
Weather, wave and map data are used for a game simulation and must not be used for real-world marine navigation or safety decisions.
