Real time
Passage time is real time. There is no global fast-forward button that compresses an ocean crossing into a few minutes.
Sailigate is a browser-based persistent sailing game built around long voyages, real-time movement, real forecast conditions and an account that remembers the history of your fleet.
Passage time is real time. There is no global fast-forward button that compresses an ocean crossing into a few minutes.
Position, resources, condition, crew, voyage state and progression are saved to the Sailigate account backend and continue across sessions.
Wind angle, vessel characteristics, sea state, crew and maintenance all influence the experience while remaining understandable as a game.
Ports act as hubs for jobs, provisioning, crew and fleet growth. Passage history and achievements give long voyages a permanent record.
The Sailigate server periodically checks ECMWF Open Data for the newest usable forecast cycle. It downloads global forecast fields, validates them, converts them into compact game datasets and serves a shared forecast to every player. The browser then interpolates the surrounding grid values for the vessel's position and forecast time.
